Round 2 starts

It was perfect weather for cricket on Saturday as teams took to the field for the start of round 2.

The 1’s played their first game on home turf this week against Nuriootpa, winning the toss and electing to bat. After a shaky start, the innings looked to be stabilised by Sam Colquhoun (35) and Trent Goers (19), but this was short lived and Tanunda found themselves in trouble at 8/71. A handy 27 from Dylan Abinett late in the innings scratched the total up to 104. We had 20 overs at them and they finished 1/26 at stumps, with Mitchell Boschen taking the wicket. Adelaide Brighton Cement players of the week goes to Sam Colquhoun. Special mention to Bailey Smith for making his A grade debut for the club and playing a key role in the partnership with Dylan.

The 2’s traveled to Sandy Creek for what was to a pretty rough day of cricket. After electing to bat, early signs were positive with the foundations of an innings being built by Wayne Akkerman and Lachy Childs. It was all downhill from there though, with a steady flow of wickets seeing Tanunda all out for 59 giving Sandy Creek 24 overs to bat before stumps. They came out aggressively and finished 5/97 with wickets going to Micah Linke, Lachie Miller, Stuart Ratsch and Wayne Akkerman. Ultimate Engineering player of the week goes to Wayne Akkerman for his efforts with both bat and ball.

Gawler Central forfeited in the 4’s, gifting us the points there.

The U16s played on the first game of “pink ball cricket” on Tanunda Oval on Friday night in a T20 against Greenock. Tanunda batted first and got off to a great start with openers Luca Whitelum and Jackson Docherty each making 19. However, runs were hard to come by from there on in, as Tanunda finished on 7/47. Greenock managed the chase well getting to 5/85 after their 20 overs to claim victory. Rikard Czanik took 2 wickets, while Oscar Harms, Luca Whitelum and Angus Blieschke each took 1. A solid effort there with promising signs in both innings, just need to put it all together.

Chateau Tanunda hosted the U14s on Saturday morning where Tanunda won the toss and sent Nuriootpa in to bat. The innings started well with Tomas Heuzenroeder taking 2 wickets opening the bowling, but some strong performances with the bat from Nuriootpa got them to 9/130 after the 40 overs. Mitchell Manning took 1 wicket, as did James Roehr, Sam Noack and Braydan Schaefer, while Harry Lienert picked up 2 late in the innings. A good effort here lads, if everyone contributes to the chase a good win will be had.

Tanunda U12 whites hosted Eudunda/Robertstown at Faith East on a breezy, sunny Saturday morning, with Skipper Walter Kinlock winning the toss and electing to bowl. An excellent effort in the field, with the bowlers quickly adjusting to the swing friendly conditions. Ned McAlister was the star with the ball, not only taking his 1st wicket in cricket, but also his 2nd and then 3rd in 3 consecutive deliveries – a fair start to your cricketing career (even if the third wicket accidentally came off the 7th ball of the over : )). Oscar Dahlitz got a wicket with his 1st delivery of the day, with Jack Underwood the other wicket taker. Walter Kinlock led from the front in Tanunda’s innings, hitting a huge 6 and a 4 on his way to top scoring on 15. Nick Travers and Ned McAlister also hit 4s as the team did a great job of rotating the strike via singles. Another great effort only 2 weeks into the season, well done boys.

The U10 whites took on the Nuri tigers this week. It was a strong performance with bat and ball. Everyone bowled well and with tight fielding Nuri could only manage 27 runs. Well done to Charlie Homburg for taking his first wicket for the club. It was an awesome display with the bat making a total of 150 with the loss of only 6 wickets. Lots of 4’s hit with strong showing from Noah Schulz, Daniel Robinson and Ben Mernagh who also hit a 6. Well done lads for an all round great game.

A somewhat challenging week of cricket overall, hopefully we can bring home some points next week as the two-day games are completed.
