A short chatter to kick off 2015 with both the A’s and the B’s having a bye, and a number of our youngest stars yet to kick off their 2015 campaigns after the Christmas Break.
The C’s took on Angaston at Faith West and started the second half of the season with a strong win. Angaston won the toss and had a bat and managed 8 for 114 off their allotted 40 overs. Young Bailey Smith and Steve Lewis were best with the ball, with 2 wickets each, well supported by Sam Cox, Darryl Hean, Andy Edwards and Charles Shaw who each took a wicket.
A strong chase followed with victory coming in the 21st over. One again our veteran Darryl Hean top scored with 47 at the top of the order, with Tim Brooks playing a fine hand to see the boys over the line ending on 41 not out, with skipper Mark Hoklas also contributing 14 not out at the end. Mia Pizza player of the week goes to Darryl Hean who’s starting to rack up another season full of MVPs!
The D’s hosted Greenock at Faith East and batted first, finding themselves in all sorts of trouble at 3 for 1. The middle order all made contributions, with Clint Hart, Luke Wells, Stuart Ratsch all making double figures. Wayne Bishop showed the new helmet Santa delivered a few weeks ago made all the difference with Wayne making his highest score for the club with 27, with the last wicket falling with the score on 91.
The visitors chased down the total, but had to work for it, taking 28 overs for the win. Stuart Ratsch continues to enjoy his long overdue return to cricket with 2 for 13 off his 8 overs, which included 6 wides, with skipper Bob Smart and Mitch Fox both taking a wicket. Barossa Valley Brewing player of the week goes to Wayne Bishop for making 1/3 of the sides score.
The Under 16’s headed to the dog track to tackle Gawler Centrals, with the hosts making a very strong 2 for 162 off of their 25 overs. Bailey Smith and Lachlan Miller were the successful bowlers with a wicket each. In reply Tanunda managed a very respectable 3 for 127 off of our 25 overs, with James Madden continuing his excellent year, making his average with 58 not out. Nic Burton played a skippers hand with 42.
The Under 14 Whites played Gilbert Valley at Faith East. Gilbert Valley won the toss and had a hit, making 6 for 135 off of their 25 overs. Dylan Birchard was the best of the bowlers with 2 wickets. Angus Schild, Angus Blieschke and Tomas Heuzenroeder each contributed a wicket. Unfortunately we could only manage 41 in reply with most bats getting off the mark but not able to make any scores of note.
The Under 14 Blacks had a more successful day out with a strong win over Greenock at Faith West. The visitors sent Tanunda in with Tanunda making the most of the chance to set the score to beat, making a very strong 3 for 149 off of the allotted 25 hours. Luca Whitelum top scored with 44 not out, well supported by Aaron Bert with 37. In reply Greenock made 5 for 92, with Harry Collins the star with the ball with 2 wickets. Oscar Harms, Charlie Collins and Jacob Judd also contributed a wicket in the strong win.
