Season 2016/2017 Kickoff!

It’s great to be back into cricket season with the opening round being a two day game for the 1’s and 2’s, while the 4’s picked up some free points due to a Kapunda forfeit.

The 1’s went across to Greenock to try their luck on a brand new pitch where they lost the toss and were sent in to bat. A nice partnership between James Marshall and Brett Grocke got Tanunda off to a great start to be 1/108, before a good old fashioned batting collapse took us to 7/130, and was capped off by Nick Norman rocking back for a pull shot and getting LBW – fair to say that one stayed low. Pistol Pete Mernagh came to the rescue however, making 29 in a crucial partnership with Dilshan Abinett. Tanunda finished on 173, and with the final wicket coming in the 70th over Mitchell Boschen got one over to have a crack at Greenock’s openers. He picked up one wicket which left Greenock 1/4 at stumps, and sets up what should be a great second day. Tanunda Clubhouse A grade player of the week goes to Jimmy Marshall for top scoring with the bat.

With the bad boys of TCC sidelined due to suspension, it was down to Wayne Akkerman and Adam Norman to captain the 2’s at Tanunda oval against Truro. Things started well for Tanunda after winning the toss and bowling, with Stuart Ratsch taking a wicket on the second ball of the day. From there though things got a bit hairy as Truro settled in at the crease. The young bowlers of Tanunda led the way however, with Jackson Gray taking 4 wickets, Lachie Miller 2, and Kyle Graetz, Cooper Ratsch and Nic Burton picking up 1 each. Jackson found himself twice on a hat trick, and he’ll be bowling his hat trick ball next innings as he took the last wicket of the day. Truro finished on 236, but with a decent batting line up the chase could be on for Tanunda next week. Big thanks to Barossa Valley Brewing for providing some of their Indian Summer Ale for after the game, it went down well after chasing balls for 65 overs! Player of the week here was Jackson Gray for his efforts with the ball.

All sides including Juniors will be taking to the oval next week… Best of luck to all sides on Saturday, hopefully we can pick up some points in the opening game of the season!
